PetroStrat Limited, a leading global geoscience company with their HQ in Conwy (UK) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Viridien’s Geology group, formerly known as Robertson Research. Viridien, known as CGG until its rebrand this year, has chosen to divest this part of its business. PetroStrat was recognised as the ideal custodian, due to its existing comprehensive range of services to the energy industry. Completion of the acquisition will happen on 1st February 2025.
This acquisition transfers 69 experienced staff members and world-class laboratory facilities from Viridien to PetroStrat in Conwy, offering lasting and long-term career prospects for the Geology group’s recognised local professionals.
PetroStrat, already recognised for its expertise in biostratigraphy, reservoir geology, integrated multi-client reports and laboratory services, will gain a significantly increased offering to now include petrophysics, geochemistry, chemostratigraphy, petroleum systems analysis, lead and prospect generation, seismic interpretation and structural geology.
This extended range of services and geological expertise will enable PetroStrat to serve both traditional oil and gas projects and energy transition initiatives, such as carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and geothermal energy.
Paul Cornick, Co-founder and Managing Director at PetroStrat commented:
“The opportunity to blend the joint capabilities of two of the leading providers of geological services in the energy sector, creating a business of nearly 200 employees and with a truly global market reach is extremely exciting. This deal significantly enhances our integrated services offering and will help us establish a stronger foothold within the ongoing energy transition.”
John Gregory, Co-founder and Business Development Director at PetroStrat commented:
“Other benefits of this acquisition will include new offices in Abu Dhabi and Crawley. PetroStrat’s main markets of Northwest Europe, North America and Gulf of Mexico, Africa, Middle East and Asia will be further enhanced with additional significant contracts covering the Middle East and Africa.”
Peter Whiting, EVP, Geoscience, Viridien, commented:
“We are pleased to announce this agreement with PetroStrat, providing for their acquisition of Viridien’s Geology business. It fits well with our strategic direction, and PetroStrat, with their recognised strength worldwide in geological services, provide an excellent home for the people and the best platform for the further growth of the business.”
This acquisition further places PetroStrat in a strong position to continue delivering and developing their integrated geoscience services and drive a positive future into the energy transition.
