We’re thrilled to announce Petrostrat will be attending the Grow Your Future Environmental Sciences Fair on 30th October, hosted by the University of Liverpool. This event is a fantastic opportunity for environmental science students from all years to explore exciting career paths in our integrated geoscience company. We’re actively seeking enthusiastic and talented scientists who are passionate about making a difference and play an active role in the Energy Transition.

We encourage you to stop by our booth and chat with our team members. They will be able to answer all your questions, and help you explore the diverse career opportunities we offer in within our team.

Chat to James and Dinfa, University of Liverpool alumni,  at our careers booth

James Scorgie (Reservoir Geologist)

James Scorgie Reservoir Geologist At PetroStrat

As a Reservoir Geologist, a large part of James’ job role is analysing samples for Reservoir Quality (using petrography, SEM, XRD analysis), as well as sedimentological & chemical stratigraphic analysis. James further enhanced his skills by completing a part-time masters in International Innovation Management through the MADE in Wales program while working at PetroStrat.

“The things I like most about working for PetroStrat is the flexibility of where we work, the places we see and the projects we get involved with (no two days are rarely the same), as well as the encouragement to learn new skills”

Dinfa Barshep (Reservoir Geologist)

Dinfa Barshep Reservoir Geologist At PetroStrat 2

Dinfa comes from a major mining town in Nigeria, and has always been fascinated by the semi-precious stones. His passion for geology lead him to pursue university education, leading him to join us in January 2024.

“I love that geology allows me to integrate and analyse data trends to understand the Earth. Geology also gives me the opportunity to travel and experience new cultures. My career at Petrostrat has allowed me to continue to do both!”

Spotlight on one of our recent Environmental Scientist recruits – Lewis Howell (Palynologist, PetroStrat)

Lewis

Lewis joined our team in August 2024 as a paleontologist/grapher. He has always been interested in the natural environment and has been a supporter of ecological initiatives since he was school-aged. He joined us after completing his degree qualifications at Aberyswyth University, starting with a Physical Geography BSc before progressing to an Environmental Science MSc. Following on from these, he embarked on a PhD titled “Linking archaeological and climatic transitions in the Irish Holocene.“

“I think the main thing my degrees taught me was to not be afraid of a new challenge and that if you have the foundational skills already in place its only a matter of refocusing your energy and maybe a little bit of fine tuning to excel in a new area.”

As a member of our Palynology team, Lewis is applying his extensive experience with microscopy, gained during his academic career, to expand his palaeontological knowledge beyond Holocene palynology. Currently, he is working on Cretaceous dinocysts!

Some quotes from Lewis, that he was kind enough to share with us;

“What really drew me to Petrostrat was the commitment to professional client services but also the real aim to reduce the company’s environmental footprint. I think it was refreshing to see a company that wasn’t just green washing with quite loose aims and goals but had committed to making some very big changes.”

“My masters was bespoke in that it offered a mix of environmental science and management along with a palaeo perspective on environmental change. I didn’t think I would end up somewhere like Petrostrat as I wasn’t aware that the skills I had gained during my MSc would be transferable to the sector.”
